The standard power supply specification provided for most elevators has a voltage tolerance of +/-10% nominal rating. Although, it has been designed with protection from low & high voltages, surges, harmonics and EMF noises at some threshold, it is wise to isolate the elevator from this so called poor power quality by an external installed Automatic Voltage Regulator and Surge Protection Device. This is to prolong the life of electronic boards in drives and controllers which cost way more than this external protection.
